Historic former first lady home in Buffalo

168 Edward Street, former home of First Lady Francis Folsom

By Ashley Hassett

Buffalo, NY – A historic marker was unveiled at the home where former first lady Francis Folsom Cleveland was born on Edward Street in Buffalo.

Grandson George Cleveland is the President of former President Grover Cleveland.

Cleveland was told she was a quiet, charming women paved the way for the first ladies who succeeded her.

"My grandmother, she lived for some much longer after my grandfather died, she was a matriarch, to put it mildly, to have the Folsom house commemorated is highly important. But it is also important to Buffalo," said Cleveland.

Cleveland pointed out that many people have probably passed his grandmothers former home in Allentown never knowing it's history. But with the marker in place, citizens will now learn of the history.

The Folsom home is located at 168 Edward Street in Buffalo's Allentown district, between Elwmood and Virgina.

Cleveland said there will be great interest in his grandfather President Cleveland as well. There's a large exhibition coming to Buffalo. It will showcase Cleveland and other past Presidents.
