Buffalo, NY – Schools Superintendent James Williams announced Wednesday that Lafayette High School will be closing after the upcoming school year. Students currently enrolled at Lafayette will remain at the school, but there will be no incoming freshman class for September.
Although the district is calling this "a closing," it's more or a restructuring for Lafayette. Next year, 7th and 8th grade students from the overcrowded International School 45 will be moved to Lafayette. A new class will be added each subsequent year for these students through the 12th grade.
In the meantime teachers and administrators will all be reassigned. Lafayette is identified among the "lowest achieving schools" in the state, with only half of its students graduating each year.
