Buffalo, NY – Buffalo has embarked on an art conservation project. Mayor Byron Brown announced Wednesday the city will spend more than $200,000 on the restoration of more than 19 statues located throughout Buffalo.
Much of the damage to the statues is from natural causes, such as air-pollution. Catherine Gillespie is chair of the Buffalo Arts Commission. She says this new venture will assure that Buffalo's history will be protected.
"Buffalo is filled with hidden treasures," Gillespie said. "It's the arts commission's goal to make sure they're preserved."
The restoration project will be coordinated by Russell-Marti Conservation Services of California.
