When Patrick Kane headed over for an interview after clinching the winning goal and Stanley Cup, the hockey announcer said he was from Fort Erie, Ontario. But Kane quickly made a correction.
"I just want to shout out to Buffalo. I love you guys," said Kane.
The Kane family is, of course, elated. Bonnie Kane Lockwood is a former Buffalo Council woman who currently works for Congressman Higgins. But she just happens to be Patrick's aunt. She watched the game with her Dad, Patrick's 83 year old grandfather.
"For all of us, who love him, who are proud of him. What a moment. He deiverd on the world stage once again," said Kane Lockwood.
Kane's grandfather did attend the first game of the Stanley cup playoffs, but Wednesday night he watched his grandson's triumph from the family's South Buffalo home.
The Kane family is well-known throughout South Buffalo especially along Abbott Road.
Bob Rogan owns South End Floral. He knows some of the family members. Rogan never met Patrick, but says the young hockey star called his shop to order flowers.
"We're proud he is from South Buffalo," said Rogan.
Randy Seufert also works at South End Floral.
"First thing out of his mouth was talking about Buffalo," said Seufert.
Patrick Kane's aunt described her nephew's winning goal as a "once in a million lifetime" chance for the Kane family to experience his hockey success!
