Buffalo, NY – Wild weather yesterday wreaked havoc across Western New York.
The National Weather Service measured wind gusts reaching sixty-one miles per hour with sustained winds blowing at near forty miles per hour. Trees and branches were felled, power lines were downed, and lake surges of nearly five feet made travel along route five difficult. There were numerous reports of property damage and a number of personal injuries.
National Grid is estimating that more than twelve thousand customers are without power, while New York State Electric and Gas report better than six thousand customers in the dark. Power in all areas is expected to be restored by later today.
Cold weather will continue tonight with snow predicted for higher elevations south of Buffalo, and a Freeze Watch will be in effect overnight tonight for most of Western New York.
