Sabres lose to Bruins 2-1

By Mark Scott

Boston, MA – In the NHL playoffs, Patrice Bergeron scored the go-ahead goal with just over six minutes left to give the Boston Bruins a 2-1 win and a 2-1 lead over the Buffalo Sabres in their Eastern Conference playoff series.

Mike Grier had given third-seeded Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 6:57 of the first period before Dennis Wideman tied the game less than 9 minutes later.

Sabres goalie Ryan Miller, who was named a Vezina Trophy finalist prior to Monday's game, was once again the team's best player. Buffalo has been unable to generate much scoring in the series. The injury to Thomas Vanek is a contributing factor. The power play is 0 for 12 so far in the series.

"I don't think it's so much what they're doing as much as it is what we're not doing," said Sabres forward Paul Gaustad. "We're not doing what we did all year, we're not executing the way we should."

The sixth-seeded Bruins are home again for Game 4 on Wednesday night.
