Lancaster, NY – Anticipating a loss in state aid, the Lancaster School Board voted Monday to close Central Avenue Elementary School.
The Lancaster School District is facing a $9 million budget gap and is considering a tax increase that could approach 21 percent.
Lancaster has seen its enrollment decline over the last few years. There are currently 14 empty classrooms in its 4 elementary schools.
Central Avenue will close at the end of the current school year. Students will be reassigned to one of the districts three other grade schools.
