New York, NY – Governor David Paterson has officially ended his campaign for governor. Paterson made the announcement at a news conference Friday afternoon from his New York City office.
Paterson put his hand up and said he gives a personal oath. "I have never abused my office, not now, not ever," he said.
Paterson says he believes when the facts are reviewed, the truth will prevail. He says he will serve the remaining 308 days in office and fight for the people of New York.

Paterson formally announced his run for governor last weekend. But he faced mounting calls to drop out of the race in the midst of yet another controversy, this one involving a top aide accused of assaulting a former girlfriend. Paterson's office confirmed that he had talked with the victim. And there are allegations that his State Police detail may have pressured the woman to drop her complaint.
Paterson has asked Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate.
