Williamsville, NY – Erie County Legislature Republicans are closing their district offices.
At a news conference held Wednesdayoutside County Legislator Edward Rath's soon-to-be-vacant Williamsville office, the GOP lawmakers said this is their first big step in lowering county costs.
Rath says Erie is the only county in New York to have district offices. But he assured his constituents that their access to him won't be affected.
"We're going to be in the community every Tuesday, in town and village halls and in our libraries working with residents," Rath said. "The services will continue. The savings will be there for taxpayers."
Rath says closing the district offices will save up to $70,000 a year.
