Buffalo, NY – Cuts in state education funding that have been proposed by Governor David Paterson could lead to significant changes in Western New York schools.
Paterson has proposed cutting seven hundred million dollars in schools funding. This will force schools across Western New York to scramble to balance their budgets.
At least one third of schools in Erie and Niagara counties do not have enough money in reserve accounts to cover the potential losses.
The Buffalo News reports that layoffs, program cuts and tax increases are likely approaches that area schools will consider.
