Local police use telephones to find missing persons

By Chris Jamele

Buffalo, NY – City of Tonawanda police have adopted a telephone-based program that assists in searches for missing persons.

The free program, offered by the non-profit organization A Child is Missing, employs satellite imaging and telephone messages to canvass regions with detailed information about persons who are reported missing. A number of lost individuals have already been found through use of the system in other areas of the country.

Cell phones and unlisted numbers will not be contacted unless those phones are registered with the program. The service is spreading statewide.
