Buffalo, NY – Colgan Air claims its pilots are given the proper training to fly. Colgan issued a written statement in response to the National Transportation Safety Board's conclusion that pilot error caused Flight 3407 to crash in Clarence last year.
Colgan says its pilots are "highly trained" to handle all situations they may encounter. The NTSB concluded the pilots of Flight 3407 failed to properly respond to the plane's slowing speed that caused the crash.
Jennifer West of Clarence lost her husband Ernie. West doesn't blame Captain Marvin Renslow and First Officer Rebecca Shaw. She blames Colgan for the crash.
Colgan says their pilots are given initial and recurring training on how to recognize and recover from an impending stall. The airline says Renslow and Shaw knew what to do in the situation they faced last year. Colgan said they can not speculate on why the pilots did not use their training in reacting to what occurred a year ago.
