NTSB report faults Flight 3407 pilots

By Mark Scott

Washington, DC – The National Transportation Safety Board says human error caused last year's crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 in Clarence. NTSB investigators told board members in Washington yesterday that errors in the cockpit led to the aerodynamic stall that the pilots were unable to recover from. Fifty people died in the crash nearly one year ago.

The NTSB approved their report on the crash investigation early Tuesday night, following a day-long meeting. Board member Robert Sumwalt told family members that the 270-page report will make a difference in airline safety.

The NTSB also approved more than 20 safety recommendations with their report. Chief among them is a requirement that airlines make sure pilots are properly trained in a simulator on the stick pusher -- part of the stall-recovery system that Flight 3407 pilot Marvin Renslow mishandled.
