West Seneca, NY – A local woman who survived the earthquake in Haiti arrived in Western New York late Friday afternoon.
Erin Lancer, 41, of West Seneca had traveled to Haiti to finalized the adoption of her three-year-old son, Geoffrey. The Air Force brought Lancer back to the United States Thursday night. But she had to leave her adopted son in Haiti because he didn't have a passport.
Husband Michael Lancer, 44, has been in touch with WBFO's Eileen Buckley since the earthquake struck. On Saturday, Lancer told her that Geoffrey had returned to his orphanage in the northern part of the country, which was not as severely affected by the earthquake. He says the other children and their caregivers sang to him upon his arrival. Since Erin Lancer left Haiti, Geoffrey had been staying at the home of friends near Port-au-Prince.
The Lancers first interview upon Erin's return was with NPR's Scott Simon on "Weekend Edition Saturday" on WBFO. Click the audio player above to hear it now.
