Buffalo, NY – The quarterly survey of consumer confidence in the state's largest cities is out.
The Siena Research Institute says consumer confidence in Buffalo is higher than it was last year at this time. But Survey Director Don Levy says a deeper look at the numbers shows a lot of pessimism. In fact, Levy says a majority of local residents are pessimistic of an economic turnaround over the next five years.
The Siena survey also found that the buying plans by consumers in Buffalo are below their historic averages. Levy says fewer people here, for example, plan to buy a new car.
Levy says it all comes down to jobs, jobs, jobs. He says confidence is unlikely to rise significantly until more New Yorkers find work.
