70 companies from around the region will be at the Buffalo Convention and Visitors Center in Buffalo Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Yahoo will be among them. Judith Applebaum is interim director for UB's Career Services Center. They organized the event. Applebaum said this is a chance for people to be first in line for some of the jobs at Yahoo's new facility opening this spring in in Lockport.
But there are other jobs available as well. A few of the other companies looking for help include Geico, Northrop Grumman, HSBC, HMOs and Roswell Park. But the competition will be stiff. Applebaum said they expect many more candidates to be at the event this year. Still, she urges people not to be discouraged or overwhelmed. Applebaum said don't let stress keep you from taking action.
She added, don't forget to research companies before going to the job fair, dress in proper business attire and have a resume in hand. Applebaum said some companies will be interviewing candidates right on the spot. Workshops to help sharpen interviewing skills will also be held at the convention center from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. immediately before the job fair.
