Buffalo, NY – Chief justice of the Western District of New York, Richard Arcara, is retiring after the first of the year. His replacement will be current US District judge William Skretny.
Arcara has held the post for seven years, and he has overseen the development of a new federal courthouse in the city.
Skretny will oversee the move to the new courthouse as well as a heavily burdened district where each judge faces an average backlog of more than eight hundred cases.
