White out conditions along Main Street, Buffalo

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Driving across metro Buffalo is treacherous. An intense band of lake effect snow caused white out conditions in downtown Buffalo and across the city Thursday afternoon.

The Skyway is closed in both directions due to white outs and stormy conditions.

The State Police is advising against travel on the State Thruway. An accident involving several tractor trailers is blocking all lanes on the eastbound 90 at the Blasdell exit. Traffic is at a standstill. Plus, conditions are extremely hazardous on the 90 from Pembroke through Batavia.

The latest National Weather Service forecast is out and it continues the lake effect snow warning and wind advisory. Lake effect snow will continue in the Southtowns tonight, accumulating another four to eight inches of snow. The bands will move further south resulting in another eight to 15 inches in Southern Erie and Northern Chautauqua Counties.

We've had a couple of cancellations phoned into us. Tonight's concert with the Pines at Babeville is cancelled. And a lecture by Molly Huttons at UB's Anderson Gallery is postponed. The new date hasn't been set.

Snow fall amounts across the region from the National Weather Service Buffalo:

ERIE COUNTY: WEST SENECA 10.4 ALDEN 9.0 LANCASTER 8.5 BUFFALO 3.5
