Heavy Lake Effect Snow in Buffalo Friday

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service is posting a lake effect snow warning for northern Erie County from 6am to 10pm Friday. A lake snow advisory will cover Niagara, Orleans and Genesee Counties from 6am to 6pm.

Forecasters say lake snows will set up north of Buffalo during the morning and will quickly move into the city and surrounding suburbs. The snow bands are expected to intensify, affecting the afternoon's rush hour.

Snowfall rates of up to one inch per hour are expected within the hear of the snowband. Thunder and lightniong may also occur at times within this band.

Snow accumulations will be in the five to ten inch range in Metro Buffalo and up to six inches in the advisory areas.
