Buffalo, NY – The Catholic Health System is closing another nursing home in the city.
St. Francis of Buffalo just off Main Street will close by the end of the year because of mounting financial losses. St. Francis lost $3 million over the past two years. Officials blamed inadequate Medicaid reimbursements from the state.
St. Francis employs 180 workers. Catholic Health will try to place as many as possible at other facilities in the system.
The nursing home building opened in 1992 as the old St. Francis Hospital transitioned to a nursing facility.
