Dixon, Hardwick and Fudoli Spearhead Republican Comeback in County Legislature

By WBFO News

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Republicans captured six seats in the County Legislature. That includes a win by former television news reporter Lynne Dixon. Dixon easily defeated Democratic incumbent Bob Reynolds in a Southtowns District race, trading in her microphone to be on the other side of the camera. Dixon thanked her opponent for a hard fought campaign and is hoping for a future bipartisan effort in the Legislature.

Canisius College political science professor Kevin Hardwick carved out a huge win over Democratic incumbent Michele Iannello. Hardwick believes the new republican seats will help the County Executive succeed in running government like a business.

Republican Dino Fudoli beat Diane Terranova 45 to 36 percent in the 5th District, which covers Lancaster and other eastern suburbs. Fudoli says that he's part of a new cast of legislators prepared to work on behalf of county taxpayers. Fudoli won the seat vacated by Kathy Konst, who remained on the ballot, capturing 20 percent of the vote despite publicly stating that she would not return to office if victorious. In fact, it was only a recent court decision that allowed Terranova's name to be on the ballot.

Thomas Loughran narrowly defeated Republican challenger Shelly Schratz 51- to 49-percent to win in the 14th district.

Incumbent Democrat Tim Wroblewski lost a three-way race in the 9th District. Chris Bov-vay, who also defeated Wroblewski in the primary, was the winner with 42 percent of the vote. Brian Wirth finished second with 39 percent. Wroblewski trailed with 19.
