Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown inspected the city's snow-fighting equipment Wednesday.
Moments before Mayor Brown arrived, a truck hauling road salt dumped its load inside the Broadway Garage in preparation for the winter. City crews will hit the streets this winter with 56 plows and 16 high-lifts. Seven new pieces of equipment were purchased this year. Brown says all city plows are now equipped with GPS devices to help make the city's snow fighting effort more efficient. He says the city is ready for whatever the winter season brings.
Public Works Commissioner Steve Stepniak says the city has three thousand tons of road salt in stock at the Broadway Garage and another seven thousand tons at its Fuhrmann Boulevard storage site.
Buffalo was hit hard by heavy snow just days before Christmas last December, resulting in thousands of complaints from city residents. Brown ordered a comprehensive review of the way the city responds, which led to a change in parking regulations and the creation of a command center in City Hall.
