A Heartbreaking Loss

By Mark Scott

Foxboro, MA – Quarterback Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes in the span of just over one-minute late in the fourth quarter Monday night to rally the New England Patriots past the Buffalo Bills 25-24.

Brady didn't do much until the final minutes of the game, when he hit tight end Benjamin Watson for an 18-yard touchdown to make it 24-19. The Pats recovered Leodis McKelvin's fumble on the ensuing kickoff, then Brady found Watson for the win.

"I chose to bring it out because that's me," McKelvin told reporters. "If I had another chance 100 times, I would probably do the same thing. The only thing I've got to do is hold on to the ball."

Bills Quarterback Trent Edwards threw two touchdown passes, one to rookie tight end Shawn Nelson to give Buffalo a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and the other to running back Fred Jackson late in the fourth quarter that put the Bills in front 24-13. Defensive end Aaron Schobel returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown.

"You've got to finish," said Coach Dick Jauron. "You've got to finish games, particularly against a team as talented as New England. It's just an awful feeling in that locker room."

The Bills are home Sunday against Tampa Bay. It's a 4pm kickoff.
