Tuesday's Mayoral Primary in Buffalo

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – All eyes are on Tuesday's mayoral primary in Buffalo. Incumbent Byron Brown is hoping he'll be re-elected to a second term. But South District Council Member Michael Kearns is hoping to achieve an upset victory.

It was a rather lackluster mayoral campaign. Challenger Kearns had little money to compete against the well-funded Brown. But criticism over the city's failed loan to the One Sunset Restaurant and subsequent allegations that Brown helped the restaurant's developer Leonard Stokes avoid arrest all of a sudden had voters paying attention.

If Brown wins Tuesday's Democratic primary, he is virtually assured of a second term. But if Kearns wins, the race moves on to November. Brown has already secured the Conservative, Independence and Working Families lines on the general election ballot.
