Tonawanda, NY – Tensions are high in the Town of Tonawanda after two fatal shootings over the weekend. And ten police officers were patrolling the neighborhood of the second shooting Sunday after neighbors reported threats of further violence.
25 year old Michael Santiago of Burns Court was shot and killed on his street late Saturday night. Neighbors called police at about 3:00 Sunday afternoon after a shouting match on the street led them to fear retaliation from Santiago' friends. One officer said they're just trying to defuse the situation.
Police say there's no evidence of gang involvement, and they see no connection between Santiago's death and the shooting of 32 year old Thomas Newton in front of his Henderson Avenue duplex Friday night.
