Buffalo, NY – The stand-off continues between Erie County and the U-S Department of Justice over alleged violations at the county's jails.
The DOJ issued a scathing, fifty page report filled with alleged violations at the holding center and the correctional faciltiy. Among other findings, the report accused deputies of sexual misconduct and brutalizing inmates. The findings were based on interviews with inmates once they were transferred to other facilities. That's because DOJ investigators repeatedly have been denied access to the jails.
Now, the DOJ's list of remedies is being challenged by the county. County Attorney Cheryl Green says they sent a letter requesting constitutional grounds for the violations.
