Buffalo, NY – A McKinley High School teacher and coach who was at the center of the Jayvonna Kincannon controversy last year has resigned.
The Buffalo Board of Education received a resignation letter from James Daye Wednesday. Daye was suspended with pay in March of 2008 after allegations surfaced that he had sexual relations with a high school student at a school in South Carolina 18 years ago.
The Buffalo School District says it received notice from the New York State Education Department that Daye surrendered his teaching license prior to the start of a hearing on his case.
The Education Department had launched an investigation into Daye's activties. But the Education Department says the hearing has been cancelled and is no longer necessary.
Daye told the Buffalo News that he is leaving the post because he no longer has money to pay legal fees he has incurred. WBFO News attempted to reach Buffalo Schools Superintendent James Williams for comment, but we were told he is "out of the office" Thursday.
