Buffalo, NY – A chain saw replaced the traditional scissors at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of Buffalo's newest firehouse on Bailey Avenue.
Mayor Brown and Fire Commissioner Michael Lombardo easily sawed through the ribbon. The new Bailey-Genesee Firehouse cost $4 million. It is home to Engine 31 and Ladder 14.
Deputy Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield recognized the men and women of the new firehouse for their patience and dedication during the construction.
Mayor Brown says city firefighters, who risk their lives for the community, can now work in better and safer conditions.
The new firehouse replaces a more than 100 year old firehouse located across the street from the new facility. The Bailey-Genesee firehouse is the fourth of six new or renovated Buffalo firehouses
