Buffalo, NY – There have been numerous examples of campus violence in recent years. The most notable was the 2007 shooting spree at Virginia Tech that killed more than 30 people. That's why security personnel at local colleges and universities are constantly training.
One such exercise took place Thursday at Erie Community College's City Campus. Officers were responding to a simulation of a person with a gun in a classroom.
ECC President Jack Quinn says the security issues are different from the City Campus and the two suburban campuses.
"Nothing is more important at ECC than the safety and security of our students, faculty and staff," Quinn said. "We are committed to ongoing training and practice in the latest safety techniques."
Quinn said the college has made a "major" investment in campus security by installing security cameras and emergency blue light systems.
