Erie County Executive Chris Collins was on hand Tuesday as demolition crews continued their work to remove a large fuel tank. There were once 12 such tanks just off River Road. Collins says the 25 acre site was quite an eyesore.
After the last tank is removed, the State Environmental Conservation Department will examine the site to determine if more clean-up is needed. After that, Collins is hoping the site will attract a developer.
The Riverview Commerce Park is located next to the old tank farm. Both Erie County and the Town of Tonawanda each contributed $50,000 to the demolition project.
