Wilson, NY – Two Wilson High school coaches who faced charges in a hazing incident are off the hook. The charges against coaches William Atlas and Thomas Baia were dropped today just as jury selection for their trial was slated to begin.
Both men were charged with three counts each of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from a hazing incident in April of 2008 involving baseball players on a bus.
Two students were charged second degree hazing and forcible touching some younger baseball players on the bus. Their trial ended last Wednesday night. But Wilson Town Justice George Berger has yet to issue a verdict in the case of the two baseball players.
The Niagara County District Attorney announced that the charges against the coaches were dropped, but has not offered an explanation.
