Buffalo, NY – Buffalo residents can now track the types of crimes that are occurring in their neighborhoods. The City is now publishing its crime data through a Website called CRIMEREPORTS.com.
Citizens canlog onto the Buffalo Police Department Web site, then click the CRIMEREPORTs.com icon. When you type in a street address a type of crime and a short description will appear in the neighborhood. Police captain Mark Makowski says the information is loaded directly from police records. But the crime data does not include specific addresses or any personal information.
Mayor Byron Brown says they hope this new tool puts fear into criminals now that they know citizens are keeping a closer watch on crime. The City will spend about $2,400 a year for the service. Buffalo is only the four municipality in the State to post on this site.
