Buffalo, NY – United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand stopped by a local supermarket Monday to wrap up a day-long swing through Western New York.
Gillibrand attended an economic round table earlier in the day with Niagara Falls officials. But later, the fledgling Senator talked about economics where it is effecting people most. Gillibrand and Congressman Brian Higgins visited the Tops market in Cheektowaga. They asked shoppers what worries them most. Francine Rider became emotional as she told the Senator that she just lost her job.
Senator Gillibrand took down Rider's name and address and promised to contact local leaders to see if they could find Rider work. Rider told the Senator she hopes so, because her entire family is affected by her lay-off.
But Gillibrand told reporters the solution isn't finding one job at a time. She said the answer is in the President's economic plan. And she said there's enormous potential in Buffalo,which is especailly poised to meet new bio-medical and information demands.
Gillibrand said the region's proximity to Canada is another advantage. And she said high speed rail will be built through Buffalo to Niagara Falls. She said that will connect the region with New York city - and eventually to greater prosperity.
