UB Community Invited to Dispose of Old Electronics

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – University at Buffalo students, faculty and staff will have a chance this Wednesday and Thursday to get rid of their old electronic equipment at a special recycling event. They'll be able to get rid of everything from old computers and monitors to discarded VCRs and televisions. It's free except for a $5 fee for disposing of old TVs.

Erin Moscati of UB Green says it's so much better for the environment to recycle old electronics. In fact, she says all of the discarded material is recycled by the university's Rochester-based vendor -- the metals are sent to metal recyclers -- the plastic will go to those companies that recycle that. Moscati says nothing will end up in a landfill.

The recycling event for UB students, faculty and staff takes place Wednesday from 11am till 6pm and Thursday from 7am till 1pmt the Center for Tomorrow parking lot.

For the rest of our listeners, Moscati would like to remind you that Erie County holds several recycling events each year. We'll let you know when the next one is scheduled.
