Buffalo, NY – A former prosecutor has been sentenced for trying to cover up her own DWI case. 46 year old Anne Adams has been order to serve 15 days in jail.
Adams tried to cover up her own drunk driving arrest with the help of an Erie County Court judge, who has since been removed from the bench. At Thursday's sentencing, a Wyoming County judge was brought into Buffalo to issue the sentencing. Judge Michael Griffith said Adams' used her knowledge of the legal system and he needed to punish for her actions. Adams had pleaded guilty to DWI, attempted tampering of physical evidence and offering a false instrument. Adams was arrested in Hamburg last September for DWI.
Along with the 15 day jail term, the judge also sentenced Adams to serve three years probation, 100-hours of community service and she must write two letters of apology. One letter to the officer who arrested her, the other addressed to the Erie County Bar Association.
Adams did not speak during sentencing. Following the sentence she was immediately handcuffed and taken into custody. Her attorney, James Harrington, asked if she could have one more day before serving, but the judge refused.
Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita reacted to the punishment and jail time for Adams. He says he expected her to receive some jail time and thought it was "appropriate". Sedita says as representative as the legal system, they are not "above the law". Adams lost her license to practice law. She was also fired from tje University at Buffalo'slaw school where she held a position.
