Green Jobs/Green Homes initiative

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The Working Families Party has been hosting state-wide town hall meetings to promote a proposal for Green Jobs/Green Homes.

It is an initiative to create energy efficiency improvements to one-million homes across the state over five years. A presentation was held on UB's South campus in Buffalo Tuesday night. Dave Palmer is with the Working Families Party. Palmer says if this initiative is approved by the state, it could create 60,000 new green jobs.

"The state would create the program and the fund. What happens is when folks do energy efficiency improvements on their homes, they realize the savings on their utility bills. Part of the savings will go back into their pocket and part of it will go to pay investors," said Palmer.

The Working Families Party calls its Green Jobs/Green Homes plan a "policy roadmap" for the state to achieve energy efficiency improvements on a mass-scale.
