BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – BINGHAMTON, N.Y. The police chief of Binghamton, N.Y., says the gunman who killed 13 people at an immigrant community center wore body armor during the attack.
Police Chief Joseph Zikuski said Saturday that the gunman's name was 42-year old Jiverly Wong and used the name Jiverly Voong as an alias.
Zikuski says the man had a permit for two handguns and wore body armor, indicating he was prepared for a confrontation with police.
Zikuski says that instead he committed suicide at the end of his attack on the American Civic Association.
The gunman, believed to be a Vietnamese immigrant, had been complaining that he couldn't find work and that his unemployment checks were only $200 a week, a friend told The Associated Press on Saturday.
