Buffalo, NY – The brutal murder of a Muslim-American woman, allegedly at the hands of her husband, is shining a light on the issue of domestic violence.

Authorities investigating the murder of thirty-seven year-old Aasiya Hassan say she was stabbed and then beheaded. Her husband 44-year-old Muzzamil Hassan is a prominent Muslim businessman who founded the Bridges cable network. He's being held on a second degree murder charge and is awaiting grand jury action.

Suzanne Tomkins is a clinical professor at the University at Buffalo who is an expert on domestic violence and is a member of the board of the Family Justice Center. She joined us on the phone from her office on the North Campus.
