Buffalo, NY – State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is trying to build support for his ambitious proposal to reform local governments across New York. Thursday, he appeared before students and faculty at the University at Buffalo's Law School on the North Campus.
In December, WBFO News first reported on Attorney General Cuomo's consolidation proposal. He wants to reduce the more than ten thousand governments that currently exist in New York by giving local governments and citizens themselves the power to initiate reforms. Cuomo gave a lecture of sorts to Law School students. He told them about special districts, which are one of the reasons why there are so many governments here.
Cuomo was joined Thursday by several members of the Western New York delegation to the State Legislature, who professed their support for Cuomo's proposal. State Assemblyman Sam Hoyt says it should be passed this session.
Cuomo says he has not yet submitted a formal bill to legislative leaders. He says he'll do that once he gets more input from his ongoing statewide tour.
