Albany, NY – Kirsten Gillibrand was sworn in Tuesday as the state's junior senator. She was sworn in at the U.S. Capitol by Vice President Joe Biden. Meanwhile, the process that led to her selection continues to haunt Governor David Paterson.
Paterson says he ordered his top aide to stop leaks from the governor's office. But at an Albany news conference Tuesday, Paterson said he won't pursue the source of unsubstantiated personal accusations leaked about Caroline Kennedy after she abruptly withdrew her name from consideration for the Senate seat.
Adding to the intrigue was that some of the reporters attending Tuesday's news conference do know the identity of the anonymous sources.
Paterson left the news conference with reporters shouting questions about whether he has apologized to Kennedy. He did not answer. State Senate Republican Leader Dean Skelos says Paterson turned the Senate selection process into a "circus" that was unbecoming of the governor.
