Buffalo, NY – There's a growing movement among the nation's arts community for President Barack Obama to name a Secretary of Arts to his cabinet.

France has had a minister of culture for the past 50 years. But here in the US, there has never been a cabinet-level advocate of the arts. Supporters of this proposal say an arts secretary would provide more cohesive leadership to make sure the arts receive the recognition and financing they deserve.

Celeste Lawson, the executive director of the Arts Council in Buffalo and Erie County, says the idea was first proposed last fall. Click the audio player above to hear Mark Scott's interview now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
