Buffalo, NY – The State Health Department has given initial approval to an expansion of the emergency room and surgical suites at the Erie County Medical Center.
Hospital officials say the $7 million expansion will add 10 examination rooms and two operating rooms. The number of people using the ECMC emergency room has risen by about 6,000 in the past three years to nearly 55,000 in 2008.
Current patient care will not be affected by the renovation work. It'll begin soon and take about a year to complete.
