Tonawanda, NY – A 23 year old woman died in an early morning New Year's Day fire in the City of Tonawanda. The blaze broke out at 86 Stark Street around 6:30 Thursday morning.
When fire crews arrived at the scene, the home was fully engulfed with flames shooting out of the windows. One man escaped without injury. He alerted firefighters that his girlfriend was trapped inside the home. But they were forced back out by intense smoke and fire.
The home partially collapsed. Several nearby fire departments assisted in fighting the blaze. The name of the victim has not been released. An investigation into the cause continues.
