Lackawanna Woman Pleads Guilty to Discarding Newborn Infant in Garbage Tote

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – A Lackawanna woman who discarded her newborn infant in a trash tote has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Prosecution and defense lawyers both confirmed Monday that Alicia Zebrun accepted the deal in which she pleaded to second degree manslaughter. She was originally charges with murder. Zebrun told she faces a prison term of at least one to three years when she is sentenced in April.

The 19-year-old Erie Community College student has been jailed since her September 22 arrest and will remain in custody until her sentencing in Erie County Court.

Zebrun's newborn daughter was found in a shoe box in a garbage tote in Buffalo. Her attorney has said Zebrun was surprised by the birth in her family's home September 18th and believed the infant was stillborn.
