Buffalo, NY – A 15 year old McKinley High School student was arrested for allegedly bringing a loaded gun into school Thursday. The handgun was found in a back pack.

Buffalo School District spokesman Stefan Mychajliw says thanks to a very alert school teacher police found the weapon inside the students back pack.

There is a district-wide policy that does not allow backpacks and large bags in classrooms and hallways. The student has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon. His name is not being released because he is a juvenile.

Reporters raised the question of the possible need for metal detectors inside the schools to prevent future incidents. Buffalo Police Commissioner McCarthy Gipson says he's not so certain that's the best solution.

Buffalo Teacher Federation president Phil Rumore says the only way to prevent students from bringing a gun into school is metal detectors. But it is not something he is very high on. Rumore says he believes the student twill be prosecute to full extend of the law. An investigating into the incident continues.
