Buffalo, NY – The City of Buffalo says it is keeping a close watch on a labor dispute between Rural Metro Ambulance Service and its workers.
Wednesday night, Rural Metro workers rejected a new contract deal. Union members have approved a strike, but there is no talk yet of them actually walking off the job. Rural Metro is the only ambulance service in the city.
Peter Cutler, a spokesman for Mayor Byron Brown, tells WBFO News contingency plans have been discussed. He says Buffalo firefighters are already trained to provide emergency medical treatment and are prepared to step in to fill the void if ambulance workers strike.
