Albany, NY – A new Siena Research Poll finds New Yorker voters believe the State's financial position is very bleak.
85% of voters who responded to the survey say the state's fiscal condition is fair or poor.
Steven Greenburg is a spokesman for the Siena Polls. He says nearly half, 48% say it is in poor condition.
"In Upstate, New York it is even worse, 63%, or nearly two-thirds say the state's fiscal condition is poor," said Greenburg.
Greenburg says voters were all over the map when asked what the top priority should be at Tuesday's legislative session.
26% want state lawmakers to address property taxes and job creation, while 24% say the budget deficit should be the number one issue.
"But the one place that voters are near unanimous is that when it comes to the budget deficit, we asked voters should the legislature and governor raise taxes to close the deficit or cut spending, 80% said cut spending, only 10% said raise taxes," said Greenburg.
