Buffalo, NY – The State's top fiscal watchdog weighed in on Governor Paterson's warning about the budget deficit and the need to cut spending now.

State comptroller Thomas DiNapoli was in Buffalo Thursday. DiNapolii says Governor Paterson has delivered a clear and sobering message about state spending.

Governor Paterson wants to cut $1.2 billion dollars from the current budget. He has also called on the Legislature to return for an emergency session August 19th to begin making cuts.

DiNapoli says the real challenge is dealing with a more than six billion dollar budget deficit for next fiscal year. He says that could effect Buffalo which utilize state aid for some city spending and its school district.
