Buffalo, NY – First Niagara Bank is once again spending $500,000 to promote mentoring in New York State.
The money will fund a grant program called Mentoring Matters. This is the second year First Niagara is sponsoring the initiative.
During a news conference at the Buffalo Science Museum Wednesday, First Niagara Regional President Daniel Cantera said mentoring can make a difference in a child's life.
"We've had a history of focusing on children. We wanted to focus on a specific aspect such as service to youth," Cantera said. "We were convinced based on the research that we could make an impact by funding mentoring programs."
Area schools and mentoring programs are eligible to apply for the funding from First Niagara.
