Millions in State Funding Earmarked for Housing Projects

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Governor David Paterson says the state is dedicating $137 million to improve and expand affordable housing statewide.

The money will help the New York Division of Housing and Community Renewal build and preserve about 6,400 units. The awards approved Monday include grants, loans and tax credits.

Some are capital projects, which primarily involve new construction and major rehabilitation. The projects are designed for low income families, senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Six housing projects in Erie County will receive more than $11 million. Of that, more than $5 million is going to Erie Regional Housing Development Corporation for a project to build 95 units for low income seniors in Buffalo.
